Self service BI (SSBI) is a straight forward solution for the end-users to design, analyze and mashup with best analytics on the data that resides within the organisation.
There are many tools available and market leaders, few from open source and vendor-specific.
There are many options available to deploy Power BI (I will cover separately in another blog post about what’s new and where to start), in the recent times I had an opportunity to present at a SQLSaturday event (SQLSAT EDI). It is always essential to know more about deployment and configuration. As an IT admin (and DBA) you need to know what are the best practices to get as much value as possible that will enable data-steward and end-users to explore endless opportunities using Power BI.
Majority of this session is extracted from a similar session in Microsoft TechEd Europe, and I have modified the presentation with the topics from my experience and few collected from the experts. This session has covered and a showcase on how to connect to on-premises data so users can take full advantage of the data catalog capabilities while keeping data secure and governed. We explore the different metrics and settings available to maximize performance and optimize access to the different features and capabilities of the Power BI solution end to end.
